Leading hospitals present first data from FASTinov customer evaluations

Evidence from Portuguese hospital evaluations showed that FASTinov technology could fit into routine workflows while returning susceptibility information in approximately two hours.

By FASTinov

FASTinov announced the first publication arising from customer evaluations of its rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing technology. The work was presented at the ENAI 2023 event in Porto and brought together experience from Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Coimbra and Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada.

Evidence from real hospital workflows

The evaluation programme was designed to examine whether the technology could be used in working hospital environments, rather than only under laboratory-development conditions. The reported experience supported integration into existing microbiology processes and the delivery of ultra-rapid susceptibility results in about two hours.

Key findings reported by FASTinov

  • FASTinov AST kits produced susceptibility reports on an ultra-rapid timeline in the evaluated settings.
  • The preparation workflow could also support MALDI-TOF-based identification, creating a faster hand-off between sample preparation and identification.
  • Reports from the FASTgramneg and FASTgrampos evaluations were delivered in the same shift, according to the announcement.

From evaluation to routine use

The publication marked an important step in FASTinov’s development programme because it linked the technology to customer-site experience and to the operational requirements of hospitals managing severe infection and antimicrobial resistance.

The announcement also positioned the evaluation data as part of a wider programme of clinical collaboration, validation and implementation across European hospitals.
