At the 27th Spanish National Congress of SEIMC, FASTinov presented its two-hour AST workflow, European hospital experience and new clinical evidence.

FASTinov announced its participation in the 27th Spanish National Congress of the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, held in Zaragoza from 30 May to 1 June 2024.

Two-hour AST in the same clinical shift

The company used the congress to show how its rapid AST workflow could provide susceptibility information directly from positive blood cultures in approximately two hours. The focus was on helping laboratories support earlier targeted therapy when a bloodstream infection is identified.

At booth 45, FASTinov presented the technology alongside the growing experience from hospitals and demonstration sites in Europe. The event also provided an opportunity to discuss the operational challenge of antimicrobial resistance with Spanish clinical microbiology teams.

Hospital evidence on the scientific programme

Two publications from Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío were highlighted in the congress programme:

  • An evaluation of ultra-rapid flow-cytometry susceptibility testing for Pseudomonas aeruginosa from colonies.
  • An evaluation of a rapid qualitative bloodstream-infection AST approach for Gram-negative bacteria based on flow cytometry.

The congress formed part of FASTinov’s wider programme of European engagement, in which customer evaluations and scientific publications were used to demonstrate how rapid AST can fit into existing microbiology workflows.
