FASTinov reported on its participation in the 34th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, held in Barcelona from 27 to 30 April 2024. The congress provided an opportunity to present how the company’s ultra-rapid AST was being evaluated and used in European hospital settings.
From booth conversations to clinical workflow
At booth D39, the team discussed the practical goal of moving from a positive blood-culture signal to targeted therapy during the same clinical shift. The company positioned its two-hour AST workflow as a way to support faster decisions in severe sepsis and bloodstream infections, while also addressing the operational pressure created by antimicrobial resistance.
Customer evidence on the programme
The event programme highlighted customer and demonstration-site experience rather than presenting the technology only as a laboratory concept. FASTinov reported that these sites were producing accurate susceptibility information on the same-shift timeline after blood cultures flagged positive.
Scientific posters
Three posters formed part of the scientific programme:
- A protocol for rapid bacterial identification by MALDI-TOF MS directly from positive blood cultures.
- An evaluation of FASTinov ultra-rapid AST directly from positive blood cultures across six Portuguese hospitals.
- A flow-cytometry approach to rapid carbapenemase detection.
The company also used ECCMID to meet customers, distributors, strategic partners and other clinical-microbiology stakeholders, continuing the collaboration that supported its European expansion.
